Episode Synopsis
Reports continue to flood in of Hollow Earth Abnormals arriving at the surface in droves. With the Lotus Security Forces and government officials taking aggressive action in the name of “defense” Will (ROBIN DUNNE) and Henry (RYAN ROBBINS) attempt to reason with General Villanova (TOM McBEATH) and the U.N.’s Dr. Lee (FRANCOISE YIP). But their pleas for more time and negotiation fall on deaf ears.
At the same time, Henry and Will receive a video message from Declan (ROBERT LAWRENSON), showing the devastating decimation of Praxis…where both Magnus and Druitt were last seen. Fearing the worst, they must re-focus on the task at hand and hope that Magnus found a way out before the city was destroyed, unaware that she in fact slipped through the event horizon to the year 1898.
Inside the camp, chaos is growing. Bigfoot (CHRISTOPHER HEYERDAHL) and Kate (AGAM DARSHI) have escaped the hostage holding area, but as the camp learns of Thelo’s death, a mob mentality starts to rise, escalating the anger and confusion. Garris (DAVID MILCHARD) is conflicted. His people are now looking to him as their new leader in light of Thelo’s demise– a position he was not prepared for. With suspicions and accusations flying without reserve, he must figure out who he can trust before he loses all control and the camp becomes a complete war zone.
Will and Henry decide that one of them needs to go back into the camp to help from inside. Henry gears up to go leaving Will to handle the increasing tensions between the Sanctuary and military forces. Shut out from Magnus’ list of contacts, Will calls the one person who might be able to help him get FBI intel from the source…Abby (PASCALE HUTTON). Together they try to piece together enough information to figure out where Villanova is going to strike next in an attempt to divert a catastrophic attack on the Abnormals.
With Henry, Kate and Biggie desperately working to keep things calm inside the camp, and Will and Abby scrambling for information at the Sanctuary, the team races to prevent an all out war between humans and Hollow Earth Abnormals.

Q : What kind of episode did you get to direct this season?
AT : I direct the second episode of the season but we shot it first and it's the follow up to the Hollow Earth insurgents coming up, the camp. So it was the first time I had done massive explosions, stunt fights, I had a huge stunt fights . Night shoots with my big techno crane which I love, which is like a 50 foot arm with a rotating head camera which is amazing. But it was the biggest like in scope of episodes that I had ever done. At one point there was 170 people on set and on a night shoot all going "What's next boss?". But we shot this one day, it rained and then the sun came out and then it started to hail and then it rained some more and then it started to snow and then the sun came out again. And I was like "Dear God, what next, locusts?" like c'mon! and it all takes place in a short space of time.

Also the second episode is directed by Amanda and it's so deft and action packed and well done and I'm just, we're very chuffed about our season so far.

Article excerpt :
PCZ: So, I like the episode that Amanda directed this season. Very cool, and I understand that right out of the gate for season four, it seems like you’re already directing another one?
AT: I am, I directed the first episode we shot this season, which will actually appear as the second episode of the season. So I directed that right out of the gate. And you’re actually here on a very auspicious day, because it’s the first day of prep for Robin Dunne directing an episode! Robin’s directing out sixth episode of the season, so he just started his first day of prep. Yeah, the inmates have taken over the asylum, let’s just put it that way.
PCZ: The sinking feeling is happening for everybody, now that Robin’s going to be in charge?
AT: Exactly.
RD: There’s absolutely no parental supervision here anymore.
AT: It’s a little frightening. But we both have really big episodes. The episode I directed was more action and explosions and stunts than I had ever dealt with. Most of the stuff on Sanctuary that I’ve directed has been very linear story telling and this is really outside of my comfort zone so it’s been quite fun. And Robin has been thrown completely into the deep end for his episode, which has massive viz effects and stunts and fights and prosthetics and insanity.
RD: Like Amanda said, she directed episode two of season four, but we shot them out of sequence, so it actually was the first thing we shot. And kind of starting off the season was daunting.
AT: Cuz you’re kind of setting the mood for the entire crew, and now I’ve made them all insane and just in time for you!
RD: More insane!
AT & RD: More insane.

Excerpts from podcast -
Diane: and I guess you'll live in this one as well
Amanda: I'm hoping! gosh! And then we come back to the beginning of Seaon 4 and I'm directing the first episode this season
Diane: Oh great!
Amanda: well it's actually the second episode but we're shooting it first
Diane: OK
Amanda: and it's a conclusion, the first two episodes coming back of Season 4, a conclusion to our big, old cliffhanger. When I read the ending of episode 3-20 I was like "No way! That's so cool!" then what? How do we get out of that?
Diane: [Laughs] Great, but you're not going to tell me are you?
Amanda: I'm not, I can't. Diane, come on!
S~s~S~s~S
Diane: How do you juggle directing while you're in it? That must be difficult.
Amanda: It is and in fact because I'm directing the first one of the season I actually have a clear prep so I'm not shooting right now so I actually have time to sit and go through my meetings and plan my shots and wander around the sets and yet I'm also trying to become Magnus again. After the hiatus you sort of have to come back and get into that character and it's been a different challenge. But when we were shooting last year I think I had three days to prep my episode in total and I was taking props eetings in my trailer and people would be coming into the Hair and Makeup Trailer first thing in the morning going can you approve this, can you approve that, it was just multitasking at it's absolute worst.
Diane: yeah, so this is a little easier?
Amanda: it is a bit, yeah it's a little stressful but yeah this is much easier, I'm not actually acting right now.
