Article excerpts :
PCZ: Gotcha, yeah, definitely! So then Monday we’ve got the “Normandy” episode, which promises to be a pretty big episode, we get to see The Five and Helen during World War II. What can you tell us about this episode?
RD: Just that it’s the biggest episode in scope and every aspect that we’ve ever done and it was an amazing experience. Again, one of those classic Sanctuary episodes where thinking outside the box is the norm. And just being there on set and experiencing that, we were all really blown away. I can’t wait for people to experience it.
AT: It’s a whole different Sanctuary. It’s a different look.
AT: We desaturated the colors so it really has the palate of an old World War II film. There was a reverence on set while we were shooting that belied the actual conditions we were shooting under. We were on the top of a mountain in the pouring rain, freezing cold; not a single person complained because we realized we were telling a story where the people we were paying homage to went through a million times worse than what we were dealing with, and it just was a very very interesting, I think unlike anything most of us have seen on a TV show.
RD: And having just seen the episode, the last credit..
AT: Yeah.. oh..
RD: It gets me every time, it was just magical.
S~s~S~s~S
PCZ: Since this takes place during World War II, do we still get to see all the rest of the regular characters or the actors in some other fashion?
AT: Um, we see some.
RD: Yeah, it’s very interesting the way we brought Will into the story. In a manner of speaking, Will is there.
AT: You see Tesla, Druitt, Watson, and Nigel Griffin, the full complement of The Five, and, like Robin said, you see Will in a very interesting way, but it’s back in time, so some people aren’t there.
RD: And you see how Magnus and The Five have really altered the course of history, which I think is very cool.

Excerpts from an interview with Amanda and Robin :
S~s~S~s~S
So of the episodes that are still to come for the rest of the season - for the third season, do either of you or both of you have a favorite moment from shooting those remaining episodes?
Amanda Tapping: Go ahead, Robin.
Robin Dunne: The great thing about the second half of season three is that all the things that the team - the Sanctuary team - Magnus and the Sanctuary team have gotten into in the first half really, really become back to the ramifications they have to deal with in the second half. And it’s really quite a roller coaster ride the second half.
I think if I had to pick a favorite moment, we have an episode coming up that is the biggest episode we’ve ever done scope-wise, story-wise, everything. And it takes place in the past, back in World War II, and it was a really special episode to shoot. It’s quintessential Sanctuary thinking outside the box.
When we were on set shooting those things with tanks driving around, it was really quite an experience. So I guess if I had to pick one, I love every single moment, every waking and sleeping moment that I have on Sanctuary. But if I had to pick one, I think it’d be from that episode.
Amanda Tapping: Yes. The episode is called Normandy, and there was just something very special. There was an interesting vibe on set when we shot it. And the look is very different, but it’s a really cool episode.
S~s~S~s~S
I was wondering if in this upcoming season Helen will have a chance for some romance? Past? Present?
Amanda Tapping: Yes. Well at the end of season - the second half of Season 3 - it’s sort of weird, because we’re about to start Season 4, so that’s where our heads are at. In the second half of Season 3, not so much. So when we were going through - you see a little bit of it in Normandy, but no. Not a lot of love for Helen.
So when we were talking about Season 4 and playing out ideas, one of the things that I insisted on was that Magnus at least gets some love interest in Season 4. And, we’re working on that. I think it’s going to be really interesting.

Excerpt from podcast -
Amanda: We also do an episode that takes us back, it's called Normandy, and it takes us back to World War II
Diane: Oh wow
Amanda: and it's unlike anything we've ever done before. Martin directed it and it's shot very differently, it's very stylised, the look is very different we sort of toned down the pallette so it's like watching an old war movie, it's really cool.

Looping Sanctuary today. Expected to take 2 hours which must mean there's a lot of lines to re-record. Great. I'll see lots of the Ep. No surprise to be honest. It's the one with the tanks and the machine gun fire.
Wow! That's a BIG show. Sanctuary in wartime France rocks! Planes, tanks, stormtroopers! Could use a fire breathing dragon but not much else! Really great scenes between Druitt and Watson too, if I say so myself.

Stylistically, we've just recently done an episode set in 1944 called Normandy and it's a very different style of shooting. Martin Wood directed it and I think that it does not feel like sci-fi although the science fiction element is the story but the way it's shot and the way that it's told is not, it doesn't feel like a sci-fi episode and I love that we push the episode that way.

An episode called “Normandy” deals with World War II, and—according to show creator, writer and executive producer Damian Kindler—involves Magnus, a tank and the 101st Airborne. “It’s a big’un,” Tapping said. “It probably should have been a movie. ... A couple of episodes this season should have been movies.”
